Smoky had reached out to Lee to tell him about the bloodsucking fiend who stalked the streets of his home city. He thought that if he could get more evidence about the true nature of this creature, it would be easier for him to make the decisive move and banish it from the world of the living.

He knew from bitter experience that most people didn’t believe in things like vampires, and so to simply drive a stake through its heart would see him falsely accused of murder. If Smoky went to jail, who else would keep the public safe from such abominations?

As far as he was aware, he was the only vampire hunter in the city. He wondered if that extended to Scotland in its entirety? Maybe even the whole of Europe?

“Naw, but there’ll be wans in Transylvania eh but?” he unintentionally says out loud to nobody in particular. This prompts two lassies walking past on their way to the toilets to share a look and a laugh at his expense.

Smoky doesn’t let this bother him. They wouldn’t be laughing if they knew the threat he was protecting them from.

With that said, the life of a vampire hunter in Glasgow was often uneventful, with very few of the creatures active in the city. Smoky acknowledges that this is a good thing, but there’s another part of him that’s excited to be working again.

He’d only ever encountered one vampire before in his career. It was shortly after he’d had some business cards made at the local printers. They were really nice looking cards with his name and phone number on them. The main tagline was “ALL TYPES OF VAMPIRE HUNTEING UNDERTAKEN”.

He’d had a brief argument with the printer about the misspelling of the word “hunting”, but they told him that it was his responsibility to proofread the text in advance of the cards being made.

Smoky shrugged this off, figuring that people who were having problems with vampires wouldn’t be too worried about a wee spelling mistake. He distributed his cards around some local pubs, takeaway shops, and phone boxes.

The very next day, he received a phone call from a group of young men in Coatbridge. They were delighted to find out that there was a vampire hunter local to them, as they’d identified one of the creatures in their town, and urgently needed his help.
